FTTH (Fiber To The Home) refers to the entry of fiber into each user's home and the installation of an optical network terminal (ONT) in the home user. The outstanding technical features of FTTH are not only to provide higher bandwidth, but also to improve the anti-interference of the access network and the comprehensive provision of network services. Due to the small size of the client device, the home environment easily meets the ONT installation requirements, simplifying maintenance and installation. FTTH uses a passive network, from the central office to the user can be completely passive so each user can allocate up to 100Mbit / s or even higher bandwidth.

An OLT (Optical Line Terminal) device is an important central office device that connects one or more ODNs. OLT device can provide a WAN interface up, usually connected to the aggregation switch or directly connected to the BRAS. OLT device can also provide a 2.5G optical interface to the ODN, with the function of centralized bandwidth allocation, control of the optical distribution network, real-time monitoring, and operation and maintenance of the passive optical network system.
The optical splitter (also known as OBD) can be expressed as N × M, N is the number of input fiber paths, and M is the number of output fiber paths. In the FTTH system, N can be 1/2 and M can be 2/4/ 8/16/32/64/128, etc.
According to the manufacturing process, the optical splitter can be divided into a fusion taper splitter (FBT Splitter) and a planar optical waveguide splitter (PLC Splitter). The PLC Splitter is commonly used and it can be divided into box type, rack type, tray type according to different packaging methods.
